Are nutritional supplements necessary for my pet?

Thursday 1st June 2017

Nutritional supplements for humans are increasing in popularity and many formulas are specially designed to match specific needs such as products for children, men, women, throughout pregnancy, etc.. Similarly, your pet might need to take a nutrient supplement to compensate for incomplete diet (especially important in younger and older companions) or to address a particular health problem.

Most of pet owners 80% in the case of dogs, do not know the nutritional requirements of their pets. They have the misconception that pets have the same nutritional requirement exactly as humans. Besides, a huge number of pet owners do not know the exact ingredients their pets are consuming.

Vitamins, minerals, proteins or other trace elements are the most common nutrient deficient substances in an animal’s diet. A well balanced nutrition is most commonly indicated by a perfect animal growth, overall wellbeing and a good reproduction ability. In an ideal condition (which is not always the case) where the pets are eating well balanced nutrient rich meals, they will not need extra supplements.

Like everything too little and too much of anything could be harmful. Therefore, it is crucial to do your extensive research or consult a vet before giving a supplement to your pets.
